Happy Pumpkin Day!

We were reading, writing and thinking about pumpkins all week! After learning about the rocker balance in math, we tried to think of things that were heavier and lighter than our pumpkin. We took our pumpkin to the nurse's office to get it weighed and we were surprised to see that it weighed 13 pounds!!

After waiting all week, today was our day to carve the pumpkin! For many of us, it was our very first time to have such an experience. Mrs. Beiter had a special tool that could cut the pumpkin but would not cut us! We rolled up our sleeves, used our muscles and got to work! First we cut a lid. Then we had to scoop out all of the "guts" and seeds. We learned that the "guts" are actually called pulp.

After we washed the seeds, we sprayed them with butter, added some salt and cooked them in a little oven. We all tried the seeds. Then we made a list of who liked to eat them and who did not. Some people didn't think they would like them but changed their minds after they tasted them. They were delicious!!

We then took turns carving the face onto our jack-o-lantern while we illustrated our pumpkin books.

Just as we finished our fun activities, Mrs. Lundy surprised us with a special fall snack that we all enjoyed! Thank you for thinking of us Mrs. Lundy!  It made the perfect end to a perfect day!  :)

  1. Hello Kindergarten,
Thank you so much for saving some seeds for me! I really liked the salty taste. While you were having inside recess, I signed my name on your "Who Likes Seeds" Chart. Look to see if you can find my name.

    See you tomorrow,
    Miss Cappa
